At its Tuesday meeting, the Weston Lakes City Council cancelled the upcoming election after none of the current office-holders drew an opponent.
Incumbent aldermen Clifton Aldrich, Ted Case, Denis DeLuca, Gary Owens and Trent Thomas were unopposed for another term, as were Mayor Mary Rose Zdunkewicz and Marshal Ron Horowitz.
Filing for office closed Sept. 2 for the Nov. 3 election. Under state law, a municipality has the option of cancelling an election if seats are unopposed.
“Since all of the council and the marshal and mayor are unopposed in the election, we can (vote to) cancel,” Zdunkewicz told council members.
As required by law, notice of the cancellation will be posted beginning tomorrow, the mayor added.
The current council is the only governing body Weston Lakes has ever had. The city, Fort Bend County’s newest municipality, was formally incorporated on May 20, 2008, after residents voted to make the gated community a Type B city under Texas state law.
The city council, mayor and marshal were first elected six months later when the city held its initial municipal election on Nov. 4.
Weston Lakes has a population of approximately 2,300.

There must not be any lucrative contracts being awarded in the near future. Just kidding, I am impressed with the community and glad to see the residents are satisfied with all the incumbents.
