Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Planned For New Law Enforcement Academy

Fort Bend County officials will mark the opening of the new Gus George Law Enforcement Academy with a ribbon-cutting ceremony tomorrow.

Area residents are invited to join Sheriff Milton Wright and the Fort Bend County Commissioners Court for the ceremony at 10 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Following the ribbon cutting, there will be refreshments and tours of the new state-of-the-art training academy.

The new academy is located at 1521 Williams Way in Richmond.

The Gus George Law Enforcement Academy of Fort Bend County, originally called the Fort Bend County Law Enforcement Academy, was certified by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education on May 1, 1985. It was named for former Fort Bend County Sheriff Gus George, who was instrumental in establishing the facility.

George died of cancer while still serving as sheriff.

Since opening day, the academy has made over 1000 presentations, totaling some 35,000 hours to more than 18,000 officers. Academy staff frequently attends meetings, conferences, schools and seminars throughout the state in an effort to remain up to date on the needs and demands of law enforcement training.

The academy meets or exceeds all TCLEOSE requirements regarding training certification of all licensing courses, including the Basic Peace Officer Course.

The goal and mission of the training facility is to provide innovative training as the need is identified on a continuing basis.

All instructors involved in academy presentations must hold a TCLEOSE instructor certificate or acceptable professional credentials.

    Hi!

My hope is to come join ya’ll again — I love sharing in my friends support! You may or may not know, Williams Way is in the ETJ soon to be annexed .. dissolving the confusion to the Ransome name altogether. As to the new jail, you are correct 1trueconservative; it’s right across-the-way from Gus Academy. I attended Major Clements’ benefit on Friday, so it seems appropriately respectful to thank my friends Sheriff Wright and Judge Hebert, along with the entire Court to Fort Bend Commissioner’s for their invitation too! Maybe we shall shake hands and meet?
