Volunteer Fort Bend is looking for people who are interested in helping local civic and nonprofit organizations.
Here are some current needs:
Casework aides needed
Shut-in senior citizens will benefit from your involvement with a new initiative launched by a local United Way agency. Training will equip you to interview these seniors, assess their individual needs, and make recommendations for follow-up to professional social work staff. The training will include in-class education as well as home visits with Case Managers. This opportunity is available during daytime hours on weekdays.
Celebrate the good old days
A sense of history will stand you in good stead as a volunteer at the “Texian Market Days” living-history festival to be held in Richmond, October 23 and 24. Celebrating more than 100 years of Texas history, this family event will engage some volunteers in showing kids how to grind corn, create cornhusk dolls, or play Victorian games. Other assignments can include leading tours or helping at ticket and refreshment booths. Adult and youth volunteers are welcome.
People helping people
Be a resource to persons in your neighborhood or workplace during a period of emergency by serving on a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). These teams are coordinated and supported by a network of city, county, and private agencies. The next training series for new CERT volunteers will be held in Sugar Land on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. from October 27 through December 15.

Where do they hold Market Days? Downtown, I’m assuming?
