Griffith served as assistant city manager in 2008 when Karen Glynn was acting city manager during medical leave for Bogard. In his new position, Griffith will oversee police, fire, emergency management, public safety communication and Sugar Land Regional Airport.

As an assistant police chief since 2005, Brinkley has been responsible for the oversight of the training unit, personnel, crime analyst, budget analyst, accreditation (CALEA), records, dispatch, property and evidence, jail and secondary employment oversight.

“Doug has been serving as the interim chief for the past six months, and during that time he has done an excellent job of providing leadership in the Police Department,” said Griffith.

Congrats to Griffith and Brinkley. Yes these are more admin positions because Sugar Land is growing. They just annexed Riverpark and will be creating a new police precinct to cover Telfair and Riverpark. Guess what guys, Riverpark taxes are going down and services are increasing, I call that good government. Sugar Land gets the shopping center and hospital tax revenues and fees. So overall I think this type of expansion is good for the current residents and future residents of Sugar Land.

More upper administrative positions? That must be costly during these times.
