Fort Bend Baptist Academy Announces National Merit Commended Students

Principal David Hook of Fort Bend Baptist Academy in Sugar Land has announced that three FBBA students have been named Commended Students in the 2010 National Merit Scholarship Program.  A Letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation, which conducts the program, will be presented by the principal to the seniors.

Students honored include Kiara Skokan, daughter of Morgan Skokan of Sugar Land, Warren “Adam” Adams, son of Mr. and Mrs. David Adams of Missouri City, and Whitney Park, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Parker of Sugar Land.

Approximately 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their academic promise.   Although they will not continue in the 2010 competition for National Merit Scholarships, Commended Students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2010 competition by taking the 2008 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT).

“Recognition of high-achieving students is essential to advancing education excellence in our nation,” said Jon Froelich, high school counselor at Fort Bend Baptist Academy.  “As demonstrated by their outstanding performance at FBBA and in this highly competitive program, these students named as Commended Students represent some of the most academically talented  students in our country. “

Earlier this month, senior Jane Jarjour was named a National Merit Semifinalist, and Crystal Buraruk was recognized as a National Hispanic Scholar.
