Volunteer Fort Bend is looking for people who are interested in helping local civic and nonprofit organizations.
Here are some current needs:
Called to serve
Provide lunch 11:45 a.m.-1:00 p.m. or dinner 4:45 p.m.-6:00 p.m. any day of the week to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and their children at a shelter in Fort Bend County. Adult volunteers, minimum 21 years old, who have gone through the agencies direct service training and a background check, can help nourish survivors who are on the road to self –sufficiency
In case of emergency
Sign up today for a training that will equip you to distribute preventive medication to the population of Fort Bend County during the first 48 hours of a public health emergency. The two-hour training includes a Medical Reserve Corps program overview, provides basic information on “The Big 6” diseases which could be become pandemic during such an emergency, and discusses topics such as dispensing-center operations, volunteer activation and assignment, and safety issues. The minimum age to attend MRC training is normally 18; however, 16 and 17 year-olds can also attend if accompanied by a parent.
Train a guide dog
Raise a puppy for an organization that assigns guide dogs to visually impaired people. In-depth training will equip you to care for and teach a puppy that will eventually become a companion to someone in need of the dog’s services. This assignment calls for responsible volunteers willing to integrate the dog thoroughly into their family lives and daily routines. The duration of commitment varies but is typically in the range of 12 to 18 months.
Additional opportunities:
