Older Neighborhoods A Priority For MoCity’s New Pothole Patcher

Missouri City Council has approved the purchase of a $181,579 truck they say will decrease the time it takes to fix potholes from three hours to 30 minutes.

Missouri City Council has approved the purchase of this $181,579 Duramax Diesel pothole patcher.

The Duramax Diesel pothole patcher will be financed through street bond funds and the purchase process will take about two months. Once here, the machine will be dispatched two to three days a week to make repairs on major streets, with a priority for older neighborhoods.

City officials say there is not a “major pothole problem” on city streets, but the purchase was made to be “proactive” in making sure existing potholes are repaired.

The Texas Department of Transportation will continue to have responsibility for state roads in Missouri City, such as  90A, Texas Parkway, Murphy Road, Hwy. 6 and Cartwright Road between Texas Parkway and Murphy Road.

The truck is maneuvered by a worker inside the truck’s cab, who can clean the area, apply a tack coat, spray a mixture into the area and apply a drying agent.

“We have seen the high performance of this equipment for the City of Houston.  Missouri City is always looking for ways to improve the efficiency of delivery of services to our citizens and this is an important step in that direction,” said Public Works Director Scott Elmer.

Is this why Shela Lenton-Gary voted against the tax increase to buy equipemnt like this. This equipment replaces a 6 man crew. 6 man crew X 3 hrs= 18 manhours wow! now thats cost savings/efficiency.

It really takes 3 hours to patch one pothole??
