Around 3:45 a.m. Monday morning, Rosenberg police were investigating a burglary alarm at a business at 3310 First St. While at the crime scene, officers observed a suspicious person on a motorcycle slowly drive around the area twice.

Officer Justin Pannell left the scene to investigate and the driver – 47-year-old Wharton resident Robert Caldwell – cashed the bike at U.S. 59 and Cottonwood Rd. Pannell arrested Caldwell for several traffic violations including no insurance, failure to maintain speed, failure to stop at a stop sign and no motorcycle endorsement.

Pannell, working with Officer Michael Walden, recognized Caldwell from the surveillance video obtained from the business, according to police. Caldwell later confessed to Investigator Kevin Raines to two burglaries in Rosenberg and one in Richmond. Caldwell has also been charged with burglary of a business and more charges may come.

Caldwell was taken to the Rosenberg City Jail and will later be transferred to the Fort Bend County Jail.
