Students from local schools have come together to take part on the Youth in Philanthropy Countywide Food Drive and Can Sculpting Competition that will take place from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Nov. 14 at Sugar Land Town Square.
The event includes students from Calvary College Prep, the Fort Bend Independent School District, the Lamar Consolidated Independent School District, the Needville Independent School District and the Stafford Municipal School District.
Teen band Paradox Lost will perform from 3-5 p.m.
Each team of students will be sculpting cans for prizes as well as participating in interactive activities with those who bring donations. Food can also be dropped off from 9a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 13 at the Minute Maid lobby.
Area residents are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to donate the East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry, Rosenberg-Richmond Helping Hands and Katy Christian Ministries. Items most needed include canned green beans, canned peas, canned soup, canned tomato sauce, canned peaches, canned tuna, canned sweet potatoes, canned chili, canned beans, canned pears, canned fruit cocktail and boxes of mashed potatoes.

I think this is a really good idea. More involvement like this should help curtail some of that gang activity.
