A 16-year-old girl was arrested Friday after police say she rear-ended another driver while texting on her cell phone.
According to reports, the teen was driving a black Hummer while texting when she rear ended a car stopped at a red light on Hwy. 6 near Glenn Lakes. Police say she fled the scene, but a witness followed her and police pulled her over.
The driver of the rear-ended vehicle was taken to the hospital, and the teen was arrested and charged with failure to stop and render aid. She was also charged with possession of marijuana after police allegedly found less the 2 oz. of marijuana in the Hummer.

One way to look it is she could be an illegal alien and if so, we could just forget about it and not do anything to her. Because that is what we do with illegals, right? My point is, this person made a bunch of mistakes and is a threat to our safety but only because she is on the radar and is trackable ( being a citizen, student, lives with parents that have money ), are we able to throw the book at her. At the same time when illegals committ the same type of offenses, we kind of just look the other way and they get a pass. Just wanted to point out a persistent double standard. So, when sentencing her after her plea or conviction, think about the gravity of her offense compared the the gangs and smugglers that brought the pot to her.
Maybe facing a judge would be a good thing. I agree Conservative1. It is good no one else got injured.
Someone should have addressed this long ago with her. Perhaps she needs to take whatever medicine is coming to her without mom and dad to intercede.
I just love it when adults have disdain for kids with a lot of stuff, cars, phones, clothes, etc. I think it is all OK for responsible kids except this kid obviously was not deserving. This kid made at least 3 mistakes that indicates they have not developed any character; distracted driving, possession of pot, and running from the scene. It is unfortunate this kid blew it. Her wealth will probably protect her from permanant legal trouble. Looks like its time for a little discipline. She should be glad she did not hit me or my family.
2 ounces is probably a felony.
I suspect there is plenty of blame to go around and 99% of it should be at home with her and her family. If she is convicted of “possession” it will cost her in many ways for years to come. Most students are unaware that even a DWI can stop them from ever teaching school, cutting hair, selling insurance, etc. as all of these and many more careers require state licensing and with a conviction it is either impossible or close to it to earn the license. A conviction is also factored into credit reports, leases for apartments and/or houses, plus many other life style selections.
As for the vehicle selection, seems dad made the right choice as she needs all the protection she can get when driving, up high with lots of steel. I hope the other drive made out as well and went home the same day.
Oh man, this makes me smile! Busted… and here I am sure she thought, ‘I’ll just blend right back into traffic and no one will ever know.’ In a Hummer! Now that is funny stuff.
Let’s play the blame game. Do we blame the parents, blame the child, blame the school system, or blame society?
Driving around in the Hummer daddy bought her with a fat sack of weed?
What a nightmare driver.
