Units of blood collected from Kempner High School students, parents and staff are on the way to the Scott White Hospital in Temple, where the wounded soldiers of the Fort Hood shooting are now being treated.
Under the supervision of Dr. Jeffery Ricken’s Health Science program, St. Luke’s Episcopal hospital harvested 320 units of blood for the school’s biannual blood drive. Of the 394 volunteers that arrived to donate, 320 units were eligible for collection. This year’s drive has been by far the most successful one in Kempner’s eighteen year history.
The effort represents a new all-time record for one day blood harvesting in Fort Bend County. Now the Health Science program is currently under nomination for President Barack Obama’s White House Silver Eagle award, the highest civilian award that can be issued to civilians for worthy community service.

When I read this sunshine it brought a tear to my eyes. These wonderful people made this a very special veterans day through the sacrifice of these teachers, students, staff and families at KHS. Go Cougars, go vets!
I wish they had this available to parents and staff at my kids school.
This was one of the bright spots of the news today b_tabor. I wonder how many schools in LCISD, FBISD and KISD participate in this program?
These employees, kids and families can be very proud of their efforts.
Very good news.
Way to go Kempner families!
WOW this is great!
Way to come together and do something good. Now, time for the military to clean house of all the traitors.
