Two Fort Bend Independent School District students – Arvin Soepriatna of Clements High School and Cher Liu of Quail Valley Middle School – were named winners of the Houston Music Teachers’ Association and Houston Young Artists Concert Concerto Competition. As winners of the competition, they received the opportunity to perform with the Fort Bend Symphony Orchestra at a recent concert at the Stafford Centre.

Arvin
Arvin, a senior at Clements, won first place in the senior division of the competition. In eighth grade, he won first place in the HMTA Concerto Competition and had the privilege of playing with the Fort Bend Symphony. He also won third place in the Houston Symphony Competition. Although he plans to be a doctor, Arvin says he enjoys playing the piano and will pursue it as a life-long hobby.
Cher, a sixth-grade student at Quail Valley Middle School’s GT Academy, won first place in the junior division of the competition. She has received both international and national awards for her musical talent and performed at Carnegie Hall in 2008. She has also earned gold medals in the TMTA music theory exams for three years and is the first chair at the QVMS advanced orchestra.
