As a result of an anonymous tip called into Fort Bend County Crime Stoppers, Fort Bend sheriff’s detectives have arrested two men in connection with the robbery that occurred in the parking lot of a shopping center on The Grand Parkway at Highland Knolls.
Investigators arrested 25-year-old Mishawn Montrey Nelson and 20-year-old John Lance Courtney this morning in connection with the robbery that occurred Nov. 5.
With information provided by an anonymous tipster, as well as investigative leads, detectives were able to positively identify both subjects. The evidence was presented to Pct. 3 Justice of the Peace Ken Cannata, who issued warrants for the suspects’ arrest.
Detectives, along with the Fort Bend County Fugitive Apprehension Unit, took both men into custody in the 23400 block of W. Fernhurst in Katy around 8 a.m. today.
The two are allegedly responsible for robbing a 53-year-old male in the shopping center parking lot. According to reports, the suspects walked up behind the victim and demanded money.
When the man tried to get into his car and get away, one of the suspects grabbed him, shoved him into some bushes and began to beat him. That suspect also ripped the victim’s pants pocket open and took his wallet while the second suspect served as a lookout.
Both robbers then fled on foot north through the parking lot. The victim was not seriously injured.
Nelson and Courtney are now in the Fort Bend County Jail charged with robbery. Both are being held under a $35,000 bond.
If convicted, they could receive 2 to 20 years in jail and a fine of up to $10.000.

The ‘safe environment’ should have been where the 53 year-old man was walking, prior to these thugs assaulting and robbing him.
Frankly, I don’t care where they came from, what their families think, what they believe, what their past was like, or why they felt they needed to become criminals. Circumstances do not define the man, the man defines the circumstances.
I do agree with you that the families of these men should make restitution to the victim, although I am sure they won’t. The mother will likely cry in court when the sentence is given and ask what went wrong with her blessed baby boy and wonder why he was even in this situation to begin with. The man who was assaulted won’t be given a second though.
Having them fight on the border or being the lead drivers in Iraq or Afghanistan would be nice, except for the fact that when they were injured or assaulted themselves, the government would be responsible for paying their medical bills and they would likely receive a hefty stipend from the government for the remainder of their lives.
I think prison should be less ‘no fun’ and more ‘the most terrible place on earth’. But that’s my personal opinion.
Sounds like the dirty dozen to me.
I don’t support the impications of what these men might face in prison, they should be in an environment that is safe but not fun. We need to find out where these guys are from, why they did it. Their family should make resitution to the robbed man. And when they are done with the 5yrs they will serve, we should put them on the border and have them fight it out with the drug cartels, or be the lead drivers in Irag and Afghan so they get blown up instead of our servicemen.
Exactly right.
Courtney looks like a woman… I’m just saying. With those feminine features, he should do well in prison.
BYE BYE punk thugs! Busted!
