Randle Appointed To Serve As Fulshear City Attorney

After a week’s delay in the wake of a mayoral veto, the Fulshear City Council unanimously approved the appointment of Grady Randle as the new city attorney.

Randle’s appointment came following a bumpy process that included Mayor James Roberts blocking the appointment with a rare mayoral veto.

Roberts said he had no objection to the appointment, but vetoed the council’s first attempt to appoint Randle saying council members were encroaching on his mayoral authority. In issuing the veto during a special council meeting on Nov. 10, Roberts said he wanted to force council members to clarify what form of city government they wanted before a new attorney was appointed.

At last week’s regular council meeting, Randle’s appointment sailed through on a unanimous vote. It also came following council approval of a resolution affirming Fulshear’s traditional strong-mayor form of government.

Randle, who was present for both meetings, replaces David Frishman, who had been dismissed by the council several weeks earlier.

Randle is a principal in the Houston-based Randle Law Firm and represents a number of area government entities and municipalities, including serving as city attorney for Mont Belvieu, Brazos Country and Meadows Place.

He earned his law degree from Baylor University in 1983, as well as a bachelor of business degree from Baylor in 1980.

Randle’s appointment was immediate.
