On the one-year anniversary of its first-ever meeting, the Weston Lakes City Council took the oath of office for a second term as the fledgling city’s governing board.

WESTON LAKES CITY COUNCIL – During this week’s meeting, the Weston Lakes City Council took the oath of office for its second term in office. All original members of the fledgling’s city’s governing board were re-elected without opposition for another term.
Mayor Mary Rose Zdunkewicz and aldermen Clinton Aldrich, Ted Case, Denis DeLuca and Gary Owens all took the oath of office for a second term from City Secretary Kathy Nida.
Alderman Trent Thomas was not present for the meeting and will be sworn in for his new term at a later date.
Under provisions of Weston Lakes’ incorporation last year, all council members elected as the city’s first governing board served a one-year term. All filed for re-election but none drew an opponent.
After being sworn in for the second time, council members drew numbers to determine the length of their new term. Case, DeLuca and Thomas will serve a one-year term; Aldrich and Owens will serve for another two years, setting up a future system of staggered terms of office.
Council members also unanimously elected Aldrich to serve as the city’s mayor pro-tem.
Following the formalities, Zdunkewicz took a moment to thank her council colleagues for their work in guiding Weston Lakes through its inaugural year as a municipality.
“I want to thank the council; this has been a really good year,” Zdunkewicz said. “We’re going to work very hard to live up to the confidence the people have placed in us.”

What confidence, no one ran against anyone.
