A Missouri City resident found a swastika and the words “Katie is a Jew” spray painted on his fence last week, and police are investigating the incident as a hate crime. The resident whose fence was vandalized is Asian, but a Jewish family with a daughter named Katie lives nearby.
The incident occured in the Lakeside Meadow at Brightwater neighborhood.
The parents of the intended target of the message told police that their daughter has not experienced any problems at school or outside of school relating to her religion. Missouri City police said that the incident appears to be isolated, and there are no suspects at this time.
It will cost the homeowner about $150 to clean the fence.

It is unfortunate that such events appear to be the norm here.

We’ve seen these in the area before and likely will continue to see them. More needs to be done!

I wish the problem was as easy to clean up as pressure washing a fence, but understanding the roots of racism and anti-Semitism requires all of us, to look at ourselves and our sometime subtle and sometimes not so subtle views of “others.” Unfortunately, the less subtle our ignorance of others is, the more aggressively and happily racist we are.
For a better view of what I am talking about, please read the comments following the Pakistani 101 article.

Why try to pass the blame?

Hmmm…and where do the kids get it from?…

Stupid kids… shouldn’t have put the swastika’s on there. It wouldn’t have been a hate crime then. Then it would have been like putting this on a fence:
MoCity is amazing and fantastic.
Which of course would be a statement of truth.

Some punk kid from her school undoubtedly.

It’s ugly, but not isolated.
