A team of national assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. will arrive on Dec. 12 to examine the Sugar Land Police Department’s policy and procedures, management, operations and support services. The site visit is part of a re-accreditation assessment that occurs every three years.
SLPD was first accredited by CALEA in March 2001. As part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments at a public information session at 6 p.m. Dec. 14 in the Council Chambers at Sugar Land City Hall, 2700 Town Center Boulevard. Comments may also be provided by phone at (281) 275-2909 from 2-4 p.m. Dec. 14.
All comments will be limited to 10 minutes and must address SLPD’s ability to comply with CALEA standards. Contact Lt. John Bauer, accreditation manager, at (281) 275-2652 for a copy of the standards. For more information regarding the standards, click here.
Written comments should be sent to the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), 10302 Eaton Place, Suite 100, Fairfax, Virginia, 22030-2215.
The Assessment team is composed of law enforcement professionals from out-of-state agencies that are usually similar in size to the agency they are assessing. The assessors will review written materials, interview individuals, visit officers and other places where compliance can be witnessed.
Accreditation is for three years, during which the agency must submit annual reports attesting continued compliance with those standards under which it was initially accredited.

CASE in FACT: “Just the public comments ma’am!” Should The Houston Chronicle write their facts straight? Fact-Up Chronymen …Y’all left me out as the “only” public commentator (me) out of your paper … I’m speaking about last year’s propositions up on the November ballot; My soul commentary to The Sugar Land City Council’s “Cultural Entertainment Venue” — Indoor Concert/Festival Site”…. (Tsk, Tsk)
Maybe we should never read ya anyway!!!
This might make an interesting meeting if community groups decided to show up. Kind of like when t.v. stations do the FCC annual reviews and invite public comment.
Don’t tell me you hopped up on your little soapbox on the wrong thread. *snicker*
What data are you referring to?
And you both can make one more e-mail too, ucrstat@leo.gov. The data should be accurately reported and not made to fit some qualifying hyped press release (CQ, Sage Publications).
It’s my belief they are from what I’ve read. I emailed my council member and he’s going to talk to the Chief about it.
Hopefully they aren’t archiving these files.
I might show up and inquire about them keeping legacy data from their license plate recognition cameras…It’s not their
business where I’ve been, and when, if I’ve committed no crime.
