More than 50 Daisy Girl Scouts from Rainbow Stars Service Unit gathered in Lisa Rickert’s backyard in November to get their first exposure to camping during the third annual Daisy Day camping event. This event was for Daisy Girl Scout troops who were ready to learn about camping without actually camping. Troops had the opportunity to connect with other troops while learning about camp only a few minutes away from home. Activities included taking a hike, outdoor cooking, pitching a tent, songs and games, making s’mores and more.

“This event has been a great opportunity for new Girl Scouts to learn about the great fun that girls can have,” said Rickert, the organizer of the event. “They share in the camaraderie that is such an important part of scouting and the older girls have an opportunity to shine in a leadership role. New leaders also get a chance to meet and network with fellow Daisy leaders and experienced leaders. It has enhanced the success of retaining girls in scouting.”
Scouts of San Jacinto and the Rainbow Stars Service Unit serve nearly 700 registered girls and adults in New Territory- Sugar Land. Girl Scouts is a United Way Agency. Those interested in Girl Scouting in New Territory should contact Rickert at lisa@rickert.com.

What a great idea! Camping in the backyard allows the girls to test the waters so to speak, learn camping basics in a familiar environment. So that when they venture out on an actual camping trip, they already have the confidence and requisite skills. Kudos Girl Scouts :)
