New Voter Registration Certificates To Be Mailed

By: FortBendNow Staff on Wed, Dec 2, 2009

News

New voter registration certificates will soon be mailed to all active registered voters in Fort Bend County. The new cards will be blue and white in color and are valid from Jan. 1, 2010, through Dec. 31, 2011.  They will replace the current orange and white cards, which expire Dec. 31.

All active voters in the county should receive the new card.  Any voter who does not receive a card by the end of the year should contact the Elections Department at 281-341-8670 or by e-mail at vote@co.fort-bend.tx.us.

Voters should sign and retain their new certificate, and are encouraged to check the information for accuracy.  Registered voters who have moved, or had a name change, should notify the Elections Department, in writing, to update their records.

A current Voters certificate, a Texas Drivers License, or other form of identification is required to vote in Texas. The deadline to register to vote, or for a voter to update an existing registration, in order to be eligible to participate in the March 2 Texas Primary is Feb. 1.

I’m assuming no one draws a check from FBN.

  2. concerned.citizen Says:

Thank you for the information and the study. I did my own search and found a great deal on this practice. I’m not sure this is what is going on in this instance, but it is always possible. I wonder why they don’t conduct these file updates earlier in the year?

  3. FtBendConservative Says:

All liberal/progressive groups claim to be “non-partisian” thats how one recognizes them.

  4. b_tabor Says:

Still didn’t undermine the ‘NON-PARTISAN’ study posted earlier criticizing the tactic of voter purges used by both tax subsidized parties. LOL

  5. b_tabor Says:

‘The Brennan Center for Justice at New York University School of Law is a non-partisan public policy and law
    institute ..’

Non-partisan center at NYU. What is ‘non-oartisan’. Nope your labels don’t stick since the study is widely accepted by those that understand the rigor (and what non-partisan means).

As for your condemnation of the National Academy of Science, I’m sure they’re very worried about your opinion.

    Dictionary Definition:

    Non-partisan-

    non⋅par⋅ti⋅san  [non-pahr-tuh-zuhn] Show IPA
    –adjective
    1. not partisan; objective.
    2. not supporting or controlled by a political party, special interest group, or the like.

  6. FtBendConservative Says:

from the Brennan Center: “ABOUT THE BRENNAN CENTER FOR JUSTICE
The Brennan Center for Justice at New York University School of Law is a non-partisan public policy and law
institute that focuses on fundamental issues of democracy and justice. Our work ranges from voting rights
to redistricting reform, from access to the courts to presidential power in the fight against terrorism. A singular institution—part think tank, part public interest law firm, ‘part advocacy group’—”

any idea what an advocacy group does?
“Advocacy is the pursuit of influencing outcomes — including public-policy and resource allocation decisions within political, economic, and social systems and institutions ” In other words they have an agenda.

I am informed and not easily influenced by those with an agenda, ie progressives.

  7. FtBendConservative Says:

the same way that climategate under “rigorous scientific review” was a hoax. Its done by “progressives with an agenda”.

  8. b_tabor Says:

How could a study under rigorous scientific review that is critical of the use of ‘voter purging tactics’ of both parties be categorized as liberal? Only in your mind.

  9. FtBendConservative Says:

“Why should anyone read research tabor”

actually I did do research and concluded The Brennan Center” was progressive.

“Progressivism is a political and social term for ideologies and movements favoring or advocating changes or reform, usually in an egalitarian direction for economic policies (public management) and liberal direction for social policies (personal choice). Progressivism is often viewed in opposition to conservative ideologies.”

” It kinda sounds like the old poll testing they did to keep voters away.”

    wha…?!?

  11. FtBendConservative Says:

ahhh just love my “progressives”. Carlos was just on Michael Berry and I’ve never laughed so hard in my life.

  12. MEGABITE Says:

If they never purged anyone those books they make you sign would be 5 feet tall and sitting on the floor. Some people
are just to eager to make everything a conspiracy. It’s paranoia, plain and simple.

  13. b_tabor Says:

No problem concerned. Don’t forget to bring your drivers lic. According to state law they can’t turn you away if you present that id, even though some have tried to change that rule too. Voter purges often look innocuous but are well documented subtle forms of voter harassment that are intended to keep turn-out low, which usually benefits incumbents and their special interest.

  14. conservative1 Says:

Well, I don’t see a problem bringing your ID to vote. I have to have an ID to do everything else, I just don’t see the problem with it.

  15. concerned.citizen Says:

This is a little more information than I was looking for, but thanks anyway. It kinda sounds like the old poll testing they did to keep voters away.

  16. santhony Says:

Why should anyone read research tabor? haha

  17. b_tabor Says:

And how is it “progressive” if it reports on voter fraud involving both parties?

  18. b_tabor Says:

Have you gone to the NYU sponsored research and even read it?

  19. FtBendConservative Says:

Brennan Center for Justice is “progressive”….do I need to translate?

  20. MEGABITE Says:

Here we go with the conspiracy theories again. yawn

  21. b_tabor Says:

Actually what is being left out of the conversation is the fact that election administrators, hired by the county commissioners in most counties in TX, are influenced by party politics. Voter purges have become a common tactic to not only remove voters who are not properly on the rolls, but are also used to cripple one party or another right before an election cycle by changing the format. Usually opposing parties are the target for which ever party is in power to influence the process.

Some recent famous cases are in this piece:

RECENT VOTER SUPPRESSION INCIDENTS (Brennan Center for Justice)
    By Wendy Weiser
    October 22, 2008.

The Brennan Center will be updating and re-posting this document regularly between now and Election Day.

    No Match, No Vote
Some states will not register voters or will purge them from the voter rolls if election officials cannot match their voter registration information against information in other government databases. The problem is the computer match processes states use are inherently unreliable. Between 15% and 30% of all match attempts fail because of typos, other administrative errors, and minor discrepancies between database records, such as a maiden name in one record and a married name in another or a hyphen in one record and not another. No match, no vote policies can block hundreds of thousands of voters through no fault of their own. More information on no match, no vote policies is available here. This year, no match, no vote efforts across the country, if successful, could have a significant impact on the election, affecting tens of thousands of new voters.

You can google the Brennan Centers now famous multi-state study to get the full research report located at brennancenter.org .

  22. MEGABITE Says:

This comment may or may not make it past the moderator who insists on deleting my comments but a voter purge is when they take people off the list when they move or die.

  23. FtBendConservative Says:

a voter purge is when all the dead people acorn registered to vote is removed.

  24. concerned.citizen Says:

    What is a voter purge?

  25. FtBendConservative Says:

yes you should bring your drivers license especially if you drive there.

  26. jaghund Says:

I wonder how many voters they will purge using this tactic? Hopefully people will know to bring their drivers lic. to the polling stations.

  27. conservative1 Says:

Do you think I can catch the ACORN bus when I go vote in March?
