Sugar Land police will partner with agencies across Texas to target drunk drivers during a special enforcement initiative from Dec. 18 through Jan. 3.
The Christmas and New Year’s enforcement effort is funded with a
$7,996 Impaired Driving Mobilization Grant, a cooperative effort of the Texas Department of Transportation, the Texas Department of Public Safety and local law enforcement agencies.
“Driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs is not worth the risk,”
said Sgt. Wayne Coleman, of SLPD’s traffic division. “You are putting your life and the lives of others on the line.”
The STEP grant provides overtime to staff increased traffic enforcement in targeted areas, an extra resource that does not affect SLPD’s normal operations.

They still seem to be dishing out the abatements to the special interests though that someone continues to defend in here as if paid to do so.”

I wonder how this topic is dealt with in Pakistani 101?
You are right on cons1 and southern. Wasn’t it last year the school district changed a policy on tardies that quickly raised a million dollars along with consecutive increases in spending and tax hikes (leading to record budget deficits), the county increased the ad valorem by almost 11% and Missouri City raised its property taxes for the 3rd time in 4 years. Sugar Land didn’t increase the property tax rate, but the ad valorem did jump. We’re getting used to seeing these governmental predatory practices now on a regular basis. They still seem to be dishing out the abatements to the special interests though that someone continues to defend in here as if paid to do so.
So far I’ve only seen the City of Sugar Land do this.
Most of the local authorities look for deep pockets, especially when budgets get tight.
Remember when targeting DUI prospects that illegal aliens with no inpections stickers get a pass and we really don’t want to bother with the habitual DUI offenders because they really don’t have any money left and they usually throw up in the patrol cars more often. This is our opportunity to target the middle class because they will not hesitate to spend large sums of money to keep themselves out of the tank. The district attorneys, defense attorneys and judges depend on this type of business to keep their holidays merry.
On a non-sarcastic note, I sincerely hope that no one gets hurt on the roads this season.
