A 31-year-old Houston resident turned a two-day stay in the Missouri City jail into a felony charge when he attacked officers yesterday.
The prisoner was in jail working off traffic warrants at the rate of $100 a day. He had $200 left on the warrants when he began displaying behavioral problems and urinating on the floor of the jail cell. The two other prisoners in the cell began to complain, and the civilian detention officer called in an officer to help move the agitated prisoner to an isolation cell.
The prisoner refused to take his belongings, but agreed to leave the cell. As they were walking him to the isolation unit, he turned and began screaming at the officers and refusing to move towards the cell. Police officers pushed him towards the cell, and he began resisting aggressively, eventually punching an officer twice in the face and choking him.
The officer used a “pain compliance move” to get the prisoner’s hands off his throat, and police got the suspect on the ground and handcuffed. He was taken to the Fort Bend County Jail and charged with assault to a police officer, a third degree felony.
