Community

Volunteer Fort Bend is looking for people who are interested in helping local civic and nonprofit organizations.

Here are some current needs:

Called to serve

Provide lunch 11:45 a.m.-1:00 p.m. or dinner 4:45 p.m.-6:00 p.m. any day of the week to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and their children at a shelter in Fort Bend County.  Adult volunteers, minimum 21 years old, who have gone through the agencies direct service training and a background check, can help nourish survivors who are on the road to self –sufficiency

Private pilots needed

Log some flying time while helping persons with serious medical problems. The regional chapter of a national pilots’ network is recruiting volunteer pilots to use their own planes to fly ambulatory patients in outlying areas to and from medical facilities throughout greater Houston. Flights are arranged to fit the pilots’ schedules and geographical preferences. Expenses incurred in the assignment are tax deductible.

Teach arts and crafts

Artists and art assistants are invited to share their time and talent with children ages 6-14 at a Refugee Resettlement Camp.  If you are gifted in art, dance, music, drama or storytelling consider spending a little time once a week to help kids express emotions in a healthy manner and realize that learning can be fun. The application process includes a background check.
