The Katy Area Republicans will be hosting a political debate at the Cinco Ranch Library Jan. 12 featuring the three announced candidates for Fort Bend County District Attorney.
The debate will begin promptly at 6:15 p.m.
Long-time incumbent John Healy will field questions, along with challengers Richard Raymond and Nina Schaeffer. All are running as Republicans.
According to information from the Fort Bend County Democratic Party, no Democrat filed to run for district attorney.
The Cinco Ranch event will be the first debate this year among candidates for Fort Bend DA, according to Katy Area Republicans President Kate Diehl.
Each candidate will be given an opportunity to introduce themselves and outline their qualifications before responding to a series of questions from moderator Chris Telschow.
The event is open to the public, and more information is available at the Katy Area Republicans website, www.katyrepublicans.com.

Jag- So you are assuming he made his employees carry signs? Got any proof whatsoever?

Can you read minds? Following that line of thinking we would have no criminals in jail at all. I believe you are bringing up the issue of intent. Why don’t you offer to teach mind reading to the rest of us then.
13. January 2010 at 12:22 pm
You know for a fact he made them carry signs or did they do it on their own?
13. January 2010 at 12:06 pm
I thought it was funny that Healey had employees of the county carrying his campaign signs at last nights event. Sounds like another TEC law violation to me. A friend of mine actually got pictures of this.

It is time we had a DA who processes HOA crimes that are destroying our communities. When HOA management pays $400,000.00 for a constable contract, the beholden constables will not serve justice; they will instead serve the HOA management that awards them their contract.
This promotes HOA foreclosure bullying and it is only a matter of time before a victim of this abuse resorts to breaking the law in retaliation.
The structure and collaboration of our HOAs, LIDS and MUDS were never designed for honesty or for the efficient service of the community.
Our DA needs to stop the white-collar crime that gives rise to other forms of crime

Well I think all three handled themselves pretty well last night. I gave the nod though to the two challengers because of their focus on budget issues and the fact that the district attorneys office was one of the few that expanded in this recession year as much as it did. I also sat next to a gentleman that was still upset with Healeys handling of the Holden roofing company case. I had to look that one up.
The only differences I could see between the two challengers was that Schaefer appeared to want to take a softer approach on street level crime. One nice surprise is that the opened the forum up at the end for public comments. They also let us know that another forum is coming this Friday and will be mostly open ended. That should make it pretty interesting.

Some people came by our home today and left some materials for Mr. Raymond. I haven’t decided yet, but will be going to the debate.

Apathy only remains such as long as you stay uninvolved as some would hope.
12. January 2010 at 12:11 pm
CC, you should show and DEMAND your voice be heard!
12. January 2010 at 11:51 am
That is the problem with many of the elections. Low participation by the voters and apathy often by design.
11. January 2010 at 9:19 pm
No these two are strictly for the DAs race. It does make one wonder, with all the candidates, why the public isn’t getting more of an opportunity to grill those running in some of the other races. Perhaps too much honesty is undesirable for some of these candidates and so are open forums. Why aren’t both parties sponsoring some more of these before the primaries?
11. January 2010 at 3:49 pm
Are they having these forums for all the positions or just the district attorneys race?
11. January 2010 at 12:37 pm
I’m going to the one Friday, but I can’t make the one Tuesday in Katy.
11. January 2010 at 9:36 am
OOPS, I see it’s tomorrow, my bad.
11. January 2010 at 9:35 am
Did anyone go?
10. January 2010 at 8:29 am
I read where the fb county republican womens club is having an open political forum on the 15th.
9. January 2010 at 8:04 pm
I sure hope people decide to show up for this. It should be very informative.

The big joke about the TEC is that they are a toothless organization. Most politicians caught by them simply pay the fines from their contributors. I’m not sure that stops anyone from violating the law, but that’s what you get when you allow politicians to self regulate. Whatever happened to violating your oath of office to uphold the laws and constitution of the state? I say if they are found in violation, then they should be booted from office for violating their oaths to the people!

Ethics Commission Fines District Attorney $1,500 For Campaign Finance Violations
by Bob Dunn 677 views | 64 | 36 | |
The Texas Ethics Commission (not the bar–lawyers policing lawyers, what a joke) has fined Fort Bend County District Attorney John Healey $1,500 for violating campaign finance laws.
The fine and an accompanying order were issued July 15 in response to a lengthy sworn complaint that mostly covers the election cycle in 2006…
==I found this via a search on this site and the one below from the Houston Chronicle.

DA becomes the second local official fined this year for ethics violations
The Texas Ethics Commission has fined District Attorney John Healey $1,500 for multiple violations of the state Election Code regarding the handling and reporting of campaign finances.
Healey is the second high-profile elected county official this year to have been punished by the commission for similar reasons. In May, County Commissioner Andy Meyers was fined $1,600 for violations involving campaign finance reporting.
An order issued July 15 by the commission shows that the commission imposed the civil penalty on Healey after an investigation into a laundry list of complaints.
The complaints allege, among other things, that in reports from July 1, 2004 through December 31, 2006, Healey withheld required information in campaign finance reports, failed to file such reports in a state-prescribed format, and converted political contributions to personal use.

Fort Bend County’s DA is a Fine(d) Elected Official
Now this isn’t the first time that the Fort Bend County district attorney, John Healey, has been the focus of ethics. The last time it was a local TV station reporter’s coverage of DA Healey’s employee, Mike Elliott, whose unethical behavior didn’t escape the notice of his boss, who removed him from a case that he was building against 7 innocent (as it turned out) men. Then there was the other time when Healey himself requested a list of those who were pressuring a local judge in a case he was hearing, so that he could build a witness list for his prosecution of the case.
And now, today, in FortBendNow we find that AD Healey has been fined $1500 by the Texas Ethics Commission for violations in his campaign reporting. The relevant document is here.

I wonder why one poster is allowed to name call on this forum? It looks to me like Mr. Healey has challengers megabite, how do you know they didn’t run someone. I’ve read article from both challengers highly critical of the incumbent and for good reason. Are the leftos too because they want a responsible district attorney?
8. January 2010 at 10:17 am
It’s really too bad they aren’t allowing the candidates to take questions directly from audience members. They need to open these events up a bit. It is still worth attending though on Tues.

One of you leftos that’s always running Healy’s name thru the mud on here should run. 8^p
