A neighbor’s concern led to the arrest of a 14-year-old and a 17-year-old yesterday for the burglary of a Missouri City residence.
Around noon, the neighbor saw a man wearing a black jacket with a hoodie pacing in front of a home in the 600 block of Foxglove. The neighbor went back inside his home, but came back out and didn’t see the suspect. He then saw him in the backyard of a vacant residence, and called police.
The first police officer to arrive walked up to the fence of the vacant residence and saw two people stuffing women’s jewelry and dresser drawers into a trash can. He identified himself as a police officer, and asked the suspects what they were doing. They said they were “just hanging out” and they did not live at the residence.
According to reports, the officer could see screwdrivers and a duffle bag with a laptop inside, along with the trash can full of property.
Knowing the home was vacant, the officer checked other homes in the immediate area, and found one with the front door open. There were items missing from the entertainment center and the bedrooms had been rifled through.
The homeowner was contacted. When the homeowner got home, she said she had no idea who the two suspects were, and they did not belong inside her home.
Police arrested the juvenile and 17-year-old Erin Rogers, both Missouri City residents.
