Volunteer Fort Bend is looking for people who are interested in helping local civic and nonprofit organizations.
Here are some current needs:
Hospital volunteers
A “people person” has a variety of volunteer opportunities from which to choose at hospitals in Richmond, and in Sugar Land. Assignments can include greeting patients and visitors at the information desk, serving as a liaison between staff and patients in the intensive care unit, or working in the gift shop. Weekly four-hour shifts are available mornings and afternoons, Mondays through Fridays.
Train a guide dog
Raise a puppy for an organization that assigns guide dogs to visually impaired people. In-depth training will equip you to care for and teach a puppy that will eventually become a companion to someone in need of the dog’s services. This assignment calls for responsible volunteers willing to integrate the dog thoroughly into their family lives and daily routines. The duration of commitment varies but is typically in the range of 12 to 18 months.
Peer counseling
Provide assistance to those experiencing an unplanned pregnancy. Women and men peer counselors will be trained by a Sugar Land agency that works to affirm life by meeting the spiritual, emotional and physical needs of anyone affected by an unplanned pregnancy. Sign up today for a new six-week training series being held on Tuesday evenings in Sugar Land that will teach volunteers how to counsel women on their individual situations and needs.
