Missouri City Police Officer’s Association Endorses Healey

The Missouri City Police Officer’s Association has endorsed District Attorney John Healey. Healey, who has served as Fort Bend County District Attorney for 17 years, has two challengers in the upcoming March 2 primary.

The association has always endorsed Healey, and is not endorsing any other political candidate.

“We have always supported him and trust in his decision making,” said the association’s president, Missouri City police officer Donna Quackenbush. “He is reliable and responsible to the county, and we think he is the best choice.”

Republicans Richard Raymond and Nina Schaeffer are challenging Healey for the position.

Raymond was recently endorsed by the Houston Police Officers Union. HPOU represents all 5,092 Houston Police officers and takes an active interest in area political races.

HPOU has expressed strong dissatisfaction with Healey, taking issue after the DA charged Houston Police Officer Tommy Harris with criminally negligent homicide. Harris was charged in the 2009 death of 30-year-old Nigerian immigrant Syulvanus Okhueleigbe in an incident outside of a Stafford nightclub.

HPOU has argued Harris was only attempting to break up a fight started by Okhueleigbe outside a Stafford nightclub, and that Harris only used “standard police tactics.”

Many, including HPOU, contend Healey is pursuing inflated charges against the officer for political reasons.

The Missouri City Police Officer’s Association has 63 members, and is not a union. Quackenbush, who took the helm in January, said the association has traditionally focused on fundraising and charity work in the county, but she has plans to start focusing on helping police officers in the department with equipment and additional training.

They only endorse whomever the boss says endorse, but their support didn’t help the district C incumbent last year and I would rather the 5000+ Houston police association over a 60 something group told to jump anyday.

Go Raymond and Nina! Rock Healey’s world and end those HOA illegal endorsements for good!

  2. viewpoint Says:

Prison overcrowdment is a message of Ft. Bend injustice effecting innocent by district courts and DA, thats costing taxpayers to pay more..

As long as your guy wins you are okay,….but, if he loses,..well to say the least, the new relationship between the Offices will begin with ill feelings between all.

There is absolutely no place for Politics in Law Enforcement! Let the citizens choose. Otherwise everyone will end up losing!

    Just my 2 cents

Missouri City and Owens have always had their “unique” way of “doin bidnez.” I am not surprised at this endorsement.
