Danny Nguyen, 43, officially filed Feb. 8 for Missouri City Council, At Large Pos. 2, currently held by longtime councilman Buddy Jimerson. Jimerson had indicated that he will not run again.
Nguyen grew up in Fort Bend County and completed FBISD schools before earning a Texas A&M University International Business Management and Marketing degree. He and his wife Marie Nguyen chose to return home to raise their sons in Missouri City and build a commercial real estate brokerage and investment business.
Nguyen said he and his wife support the Missouri City Business Alliance, Quail Valley Proud, Oyster Creek Rotary, Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo, the Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce, Fort Bend Leadership Forum, Missouri City Police & Fire Auxiliary, Missouri City’s American Legion Post, Fort Bend, Houston and Texas Associations of Realtors, Quail Valley Country Club, their homeowners association and church.
Nguyen served on Missouri City’s Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee and the Tax Increment Finance Re-Investment Zone #3 Board.
“Most important to us are our two young children and contributing to this city to ensure them and all Missouri City children a future that focuses on the Missouri City values we knew growing up rooted right with respect for public safety professionals and private property rights, honoring veterans and senior citizens, fiscal constraint framed by less taxes, fees and fines, less government spending, freedom for small business, fighting flooding and fully combating crime” Nguyen said.
Nguyen said he will “say ‘no’ when necessary, privatize when practical and insist that the city’s police and fire responders are fully equipped for their mission.” He said their mission is to “ensure Missouri City stands out among America’s most pro-family and pro- small business success cities.”
“I’m grateful for the reverent and patriotic values my entrepreneurial mother and my father that served with US Army Green Berets taught me and thankful for opportunities I’ve been offered here to raise my family, build my business and serve my city and country,” said Nguyen.
“In addition to Marie’s total backing of my serving our city, I’m blessed for the support from my parents, sisters and brothers and their families that live here and my friends and our neighbors that are prepared and motivated to work to win this position because what is on the line is Missouri City’s future,” said Nguyen. “I have been encouraged by current city and county officials, business and church colleagues but my most important motivator is neighbors in every district and precinct telling us that they know that respectful, reliable and responsive government must start with our city council.”
Candidate filing runs Feb. 6 through March 8. Early voting starts April 26 and ends May 4, and the election will be held May 8.
Allen Owen, mayor since 1994 and former Planning and Zoning Commissioner and council member, is up for his ninth term. At-Large Position 1 Councilman Jerry Wyatt’s spot is also up for election. Wyatt has served on council intermittently since 1981, including five years as Mayor Pro-Tem.
Candidates can file in person at the City Secretary’s office, 1522 Texas Parkway, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Candidates can also send their applications by mail to City Secretary, City of Missouri City, 1522 Texas Parkway, Missouri City, TX 77489.

Why not, It’s time to move away from the same special interest who control the public agenda for their personal profit!

I don’t. But the last time I disagreed with Mary, FBN shut the discussion board down for two weeks, and revised their posting policy… so I’m not going to go there!
:)

Mary I agree 100%

I agree it would be nice to get people into office that will look out for the electorate and not feed the machine, especially during these tough economic times. We need all our nickels and dimes!

“Heck, we need some common folks in office. People that feel it, like the rest of us, when taxes are raised.”
Yes, common folks that are not in the development game and feeding our taxes and bond monies to this bunch would be nice and a much larger turn-out from all the neighborhoods with an educated voice to expose the cronyism.

‘With the truth on our side, there is never a reason to hide!’
I like that – sounds like a good (although lengthy) battle cry. Of course, my favorite one was ‘SPOOOOOON!’ from the cartoon/comic book The Tick.

Nguyen, Wyatt, and Owen are best for Missouri City…and I don’t just believe this…I know it.
…and no matter how many anonymous attacks may be hurled at them via forums…I believe voters are savvy enough to question anonymous attacks…Especially in that when you have the truth on your side, there is never any reason to hide.

I agree – I would love to see some non-politician types run.
What ever happened to the local hardware shop owner running to make a difference in his or her neighborhood? You know the type – a person without a lick of experience in politics, but with common sense, ethics, and values. Now days, the prerequisites for a community to take you seriously is if you have been in politics for your whole life, are highly educated, well connected, and have spare money to spend on campaigns.
Heck, we need some common folks in office. People that feel it, like the rest of us, when taxes are raised. People that want to take their family out on the weekend and spend their money in our their own town – not Houston or Sugar Land because all Missouri City has to offer are strip centers on every corner. People who are tired of the political system, tired of being looked down upon by politicians, and tired of having to get a ‘mob’ together just to be taken seriously by Council.
Ugh… let me tell you how I really feel. Ha!

I think mcty that not being in the clique or having the wrong type of political “experience” as many of our local politicians and some wannabees seem to have would be a bonus. I would love to see someone without the normal affiliations running for office and bringing her/his campaign directly to the people. We have too many already cut from the industry template and produced willy nilly for our consumption as if we were at the mall selecting a pair of socks and acting like it really doesn’t matter which one we pick. It is time to jump outside the failed paradigm of corruption (you know, the ‘lets make a deal’ bunch).

What about people with no record? Frankly, there are a few people out there that would like to ‘make a difference’ and run for office, but have little experience at all – just plain old common sense. Does common sense trump political experience?

7&8 wadefishin, That another reason to look an bring in better candidates with good or better record back grounds, to replace any from your list! We voters will support any new good record candidates, but will prohibit candidates with bad record back grounds like Ronald Reynolds.

huh? Nguyen’s site isn’t up yet…..hahaha
9. February 2010 at 4:21 pm
On Reynolds site talk about a clique:
Congressman Al Green
Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee
Senator Rodney Ellis
Honorable Chris Bell
Mayor Allen Owen
Commissioner Grady Prestage
Constable Ruben Davis
City Controller Annise Parker
9. February 2010 at 4:02 pm
What a clique, I just found these three names all over each others websites and supporters list
Ron Reynolds
Allen Owen &
Danny Nguyen
Nothing like friends, huh?

Well, if he is anything like your hero, he will make sure the tax dollars get to the right companies in that “fast track” process they have set-up for the best contributors. Not to mention special abatements, taxing zones and other budget busting and property tax increasing deals. But anytime you tell us to support someone wf, you can make a safe bet that you lost quite a few votes for your endorsement.

Nguyen will keep MC a winner….another reason why MC is one of the top 100 cities in the US…
9. February 2010 at 11:29 am
It is no accident that the current retail/development mayor is backing this candidate. Check Owens campaign finance reports and see why so often while the community sleeps we elect those that are in “the biz” as patriot mentions above and then stop questioning why your taxes go up every year. Start electing average citizens, not in “the biz”, and you may see this stop, but until then enjoy the ride. It is happening at all levels of government (school district, cities and county) and it is all about your bonds and tax dollars. What an industry politics has developed into.

It is one thing to be business friendly if you are using those businesses to off-set resident taxes, improve conditions of a community or area, or creating a business friendly infrastructure.
It is something completely different to be business friendly in order to see personal and professional gains. I have seen it posted on here once or twice that Mr. Nguyen has a vested interest in Missouri City, from a development standpoint. He may have a hard time distancing himself from that perception – if in fact, he wants to.

Can you say, “Bidnez Friendly”?
Can you say, “PID- public improvement development”?
Can you say, “Community and taxpayer destruction”?
