District 27 Candidate’s Bar Sanctions Due To Missed Deadlines

State Representative District 27 candidate Ron Reynolds denies rumors he was ever disbarred, and said his two partially probated suspensions from the State Bar of Texas are due to missed deadlines.

Reynolds, a Missouri City resident, will face 11-year incumbent Dora Olivo in the March 2 Democratic Primary.

Reynolds, an attorney with Brown, Brown & Reynolds, P.C., was licensed by the State Bar of Texas in May of 2000. He was sanctioned twice by the bar, and his suspensions were served consecutively. From April 1, 2005 to June 20, 2006, Reynolds was unable to practice law. From June 20, 2006, to June 30, 2009, he was on probation.

Reynolds said he missed two deadlines for summary judgments. Each time, he was the attorney for the plaintiff, and the case was dismissed after the defendant filed a motion to dismiss and Reynolds missed the deadline to respond.

“At the time this happened, my mother had a stroke, and I was in and out of the office,” said Reynolds. “I am an only child. I was out of the office, and was not as responsible as I should have been with managing my law practice.”

His mother is a partner in his firm.

“It was a difficult period of time for me – I was a young lawyer and I had a lot going on,” said Reynolds. “I was an associate judge and I was president of the lawyers association and I took some time out to help take care of my mother and I missed some deadlines. I had to take responsibility for that and I didn’t make any excuses about it.”

Reynolds calls the incidents “unfortunate blemishes on his career,” but says the suspensions have not hindered him.

“It’s just unfortunate, but that’s pretty much it,” said Reynolds. “I should have delegated the responsibilities to another associate. I definitely don’t make any excuses for it. I took responsibility for it and have moved on.”

This from the Capital Annex, from Austin,Tx.A good source of infor!!!!
On Nov. 22, 2005, Ronald E. Reynolds, 31, of Houston, accepted a six-month, partially probated suspension effective March 31, 2006, upon completion of his current active suspension, with the first three months actively served and the remainder probated. An evidentiary panel of the District 4-D Grievance Committee found that Reynolds was retained to represent his client in a personal injury case. In January 2004, Reynolds settled the case without his client’s knowledge or consent. Reynolds then received settlement proceeds from the insurer without notifying his client, negotiated the settlement check without distributing the funds to his client, and misrepresented to his client that he was still working on the case after he had successfully negotiated the settlement check. Reynolds violated Rules 1.01(b)(2), 1.03(a) and (b), 1.14(a) and (b), and 8.04(a)(3). He agreed to pay $350 in attorney’s fees.
In another instance, Reynolds neglected matters for three clients:

On Feb. 9, Ronald E. Reynolds [#24025610], 31, of Katy accepted a four-year, partially probated suspension effective April 1, 2005, with the first 364 days actively served and the remainder probated. An evidentiary panel of the District 4-F Grievance Committee found Reynolds was retained in three separate matters and neglected each legal matter entrusted to him. He failed to carry out completely the obligations owed his clients, keep them reasonably informed about the status of their cases, or promptly comply with their reasonable requests for information. Reynolds violated Rules 1.01(b)(1) and (b)(2) and 1.03(a). He was ordered to pay $3,000 in attorney’s fees.

Ronald Reynolds was an Associate judge, where? Absents of lawyers duty effects publics representation, as an elected official in the future. Its better for Cand. R.Reynolds
to take care of his own mother from future strokes effects.
