Fulshear Book Club To Review ‘The Glass Castle’ By Jeannette Walls

The next meeting of the Fulshear Book Club will take place next Monday, Feb. 15, at the Bob Lutts Fulshear/Simonton Branch Library in Fulshear.

The meeting will begin at noon in the library’s meeting room.

The book to be discussed is “The Glass Castle,” a memoir by Jeannette Walls.

Walls is a regular contributor to MSNBC.com, and enjoys a successful life in New York with her husband, who is also a writer. Considering the success Walls has achieved in her adult life, one cannot imagine the highly-irregular, nomadic and often homeless childhood that she and her three siblings experienced.

Her eccentric, flighty parents could often be found dumpster-diving or gambling away the children’s meager savings, while the children safety-pinned their shoes together and struggled to disguise the holes in their clothes.

Although her childhood could easily be described as abusive or neglectful, Walls retains fond memories of her unconventional upbringing and the parents who made hardships feel like adventures. Her story is one of triumph against all odds.

Anyone interested in joining the literary review club is invited to attend and bring a lunch along, if desired.
