With Snow In The Forecast, MoCity Participating In Severe Weather Awareness Week

With weather forecasters warning of possible snow Tuesday, Missouri City is reminding residents that it is Severe Weather Awareness Week in Texas.

The Texas Division of Emergency Management, the National Weather Service, Emergency Management Coordinators and officials with local jurisdictions, have joined together yearly to remind residents to prepare for weather emergencies.
Missouri City is urging residents to review and update their emergency plans, inspect supply kits and stock up on items such as non-perishable food and water.

In coordination with the Governor’s Division of Emergency Management and the Fort Bend County Office of Emergency Management, Missouri City’s Emergency Operations Center is “geared up to handle all weather emergencies,” according to city representatives.

“We always want our citizens to be prepared. Part of being prepared is being educated to the types of severe weather we experience in our area,” said John Sheffield, chief of Missouri City’s Division of Emergency Preparedness.  “Lightning strikes are common here, street flooding can be very dangerous, and we have had our share of high wind events. Please know what to do during these emergencies and have your emergency preparedness kit available at all times.”

Additionally, residents can listen to NOAA weather radios or 1670 AM in Fort Bend County for weather updates.
