Sheriff’s Detectives Seize Computers From Newspaper, Former Sports Editor Under Investigation

Computers used by the former interim publisher and sports editor of a Katy newspaper have been seized by Fort Bend County sheriff’s detectives as part of an investigation into sexual online chats with underage girls

Last Thursday, sheriff’s detectives executed a search warrant issued by Judge Robert J. Kern of the 387th District Court at the offices of the Katy Times newspaper in Katy.

Seized were computers and computer equipment used by former interim publisher and long-time sports editor Nick Georgandis. Computer equipment was taken from the newspaper offices, as well as from Georgandis’ Fort Bend County home.

Georgandis is being investigated for reportedly posing as a pair of former Katy High School football players to entice underage females into online chats. The sheriff’s office would not discuss details of the chats; however, one source close to the investigation said the exchanges were of a sexual nature.

The messages include photographs of a lewd nature, the source said.

The search warrant affidavit described comments made by Georgandis impersonating former football players Aundre Dean and Trent Hunter as “obscene and disturbing things sexual in nature.”

Neither Dean nor Hunter, both of whom now play college football, were aware they were being impersonated online, according to investigators.

Georgandis has been terminated by the Rosenberg-based Hartman Newspaper Group, owners of the Katy Times.

He has not been arrested or charged with a crime, and has reportedly been cooperating with the investigation.
