FBISD Plans Wellness Fair At Sugar Land Town Square

The Fort Bend Independent School district has scheduled the  “WATCH Your Wellness Health and Fitness Fair” from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. March 6 at Sugar Land Town Square. The fair is hosted by FBISD’s Safe and Drug Free Schools Department, the FBISD Wellness Committee, and the Fort Bend County Medical Society Alliance and kicks off the week-long WATCH program in FBISD.

Other fair partners include: Kelsey Research Foundation, Memorial Hermann Sugar Land, Methodist Hospital, the Oliver Foundation, Sugar Land Town Square, and UnitedHealthcare. All FBISD employees, students, their families and entire community are invited to attend.

The fair will feature more than 35 vendors, who will offer participants health information, demonstrations, screenings and children’s activities. Entertainment will also be provided, featuring various FBISD jazz bands, choirs, cheerleader groups, dancers, Tae Kwon Do demonstrators and more.

This year marks the 10th year of FBISD’s involvement in the WATCH Program, which will be observed March 8-12. Created by the Texas Medical Association, the Fort Bend County Medical Alliance Society continues to collaborate with FBISD to educate youth about the five major risk factors for cardiovascular disease. The letters in WATCH represent these risk factors: weight, activity, tobacco, cholesterol, and high blood pressure. FBISD has planned many activities during WATCH week, including a health pledge, a WATCH walk, and new writing lessons using a WATCH postcard. The elementary PE teachers will also participate by having their classes walk during PE classes that week.
