Volunteers Needed To Help Victims Of Abuse, Instruct Art To Disadvantaged Kids

Volunteer Fort Bend is looking for people who are interested in helping local civic and nonprofit organizations.

Here are some current needs:

Advocate for victims of abuse

Be an advocate for women victimized by domestic abuse.  Volunteering with an organization that works to prevent violence against Asian women, you’ll help heal the hurt of past abuse and foster healthier interaction among family members in the future.  A comprehensive 40-hour training program will equip you to handle calls from your home, providing peer counseling when appropriate and referring women on to other needed services.    Knowledge of an Asian language is helpful but not required.

Innovative Arts Program

Volunteer instructors are needed to help disadvantaged children in Missouri City explore their individual creative dreams. If you are skilled in music, dance, or graphic art, consider coming by on the weekday of your choice to help nurture these youngsters’ potential. Your time commitment can involve as little as 30 to 60 minutes once a week on your choice of weekdays between 3:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

The Good Ole Days

History and heritage will come alive when you don a period costume and help visitors travel back in time at Richmond’s famous George Ranch.  Providing kids and adults with an “up close and personal” perspective on life in Fort Bend County from the 1820s to the 1940s, you can portray a cowboy, blacksmith, sharecropper or other occupation emblematic of the times. Assignments are available during daytime hours on weekdays and Saturdays. Training will be provided.

-         Help a sports organization in Missouri City with data entry and word processing.
