Witness Follows Alleged Drunk Driver After Witnessing Accident

A 43-year-old man was arrested for drunk driving last night after he left the scene of an accident and was followed by a witness.

According to Missouri City police, a woman was sitting in the left turn lane southbound at Grand Park and Texas Parkway around 11:30 p.m. when she was hit on her driver’s side door by a man traveling the opposite direction. After hitting her the suspect backed up and drove away “calmly.”

A driver who saw the accident, but was not involved, followed the suspect’s car, a blue Chevy truck, and called police. The suspect drove home, parked in his driveway, and sat in his car. The witness passed his home, got the address, and gave it to police.

When police arrived, they approached the suspect and had him get out of the truck. Police said when the man was standing, he had to lean against the truck to maintain his balance and police could smell alcohol. The suspect told police he didn’t remember hitting another vehicle.

He was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and failure to stop and give information at an accident scene. Police said the witness kept his distance as he was following the suspect and did not endanger himself, which is what they would advise.

I applaud the witness who helped the police. These are the exact types of DWI crimes we should going after. After all my viewpoints on police dragnetting the general public. I was waiting for a chance to express how I disdain drunk driving. But this should not discourage folks who have a couple glasses of wine at dinner and stay under the legal limit. This case is a clear example that we have a segment of our population that has no regard for anyones safety and are ticking time bombs. These are the folks that need to be picked up for DWI. I hope no one was injured and I hope he has insurance.
