Mother, 16-Year-Old Daughter Arrested For Kroger Theft

A 31-year-old Houston resident and her 16-year-old daughter were arrested yesterday for theft from the Kroger in the 6200 block of Hwy. 6 in Missouri City. A 33-year-old was arrested along with the pair.

Police were called by the store manager around 4:10 p.m. The manager told police that the three women loaded a cart with more than $130 worth of groceries then walked to their car without paying. When the manager approached the women in the parking lot, the teenager was outside the car while her mother and her mother’s friend were inside the car. The driver backed up, hitting the cart, and took off. The teenager ran away.

The manager gave police a description of the vehicle, and police located the suspects about a block away. All three were in the car, having apparently picked up the teenager after she ran away. They were taken back to the store where the manger identified them as the suspects.

Police arrested the teenager, her mother and a 33-year-old Houston resident Donna Trevino. The two adults were charged with felony theft due to prior theft convictions. FortBendNow is not releasing the mother’s name to avoid identifying the juvenile.

The key to the whole thing is the age. If the ages are right, the mother was only 15 when the young man was born. Just being 15 and having a child in it’s self would not be so damning, but it along with the theft is.

Yes, it is sad. Particularly, when the “something taken without paying for” is food—–if one does not have food and is hungry, well, I’m uncertain about how I feel. I, certainly, do not feel positive in calling for their head or crying out for them to be tarred and feathered to the level of a felony conviction. If indeed taking food because you have none and you are hungry becomes a felony— we should all be careful as to what we accept and/or support as appropriate punishment for stealing food when hungry for others because there goes any of us without the grace of God.

sad sad sad, teenager being put in this situation. from what I saw on the tabloid tv news, they had hit several stores and had other success. no excuse for stealing. glad they were caught. but remember folks, they were stealing food and clothing. someone needs to look into those households and see what problems exist, now that a crime has occured, it will probably happen. notice they were Houston residents and came out here to steal for some reason, maybe its easier out here, who knows.
