Volunteers Needed To Coach Soccer, Distribute Food To The Hungry

Volunteer Fort Bend is looking for people who are interested in helping local civic and nonprofit organizations.

Here are some current needs:

Let the games begin

Coach kids in soccer, softball, baseball or volleyball at community centers in Missouri City and Richmond. Whichever your preferred sport, your involvement will enable these youngsters to enjoy healthful, character-building recreation and learn the importance of teamwork. During the spring, these activities are available weekday evenings and Saturday mornings.

Feed the hungry

Help box and distribute food for 400-500 people with a faith-based organization in Stafford that serves families in need.  Groups and individuals of all ages are invited to help sort and box food items Tuesday or Thursday mornings from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Strong volunteers, who can lift boxes full of food, can really assist by placing those boxes in the cars of program participants on Tuesday or Thursday evenings from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Under your wing

Baby birds will be your focus when you volunteer in the avian section of a wildlife rehabilitation center near Hammerly and Beltway 8. Staff there will be happy to teach you all you need to know about the care and feeding of these feathered friends to enable you to nurse them to good health. Duty shifts are generally available during the daytime on weekdays and weekends year-round. (During the summer, evening shifts are also available.)  The minimum age to volunteer on your own is 18, however young people, ages 12 to 17 are welcome if accompanied by a parent or guardian.
