Volunteers Needed To Staff Free Dental Clinic, Protect Wildlife

Volunteer Fort Bend is looking for people who are interested in helping local civic and nonprofit organizations.

Here are some current needs:

Help staff free dental clinic

Professional dentists, dental hygienists, and registered dental assistants are needed to provide free dental clinic services for low-income residents of Fort Bend County.  If you have the appropriate professional credentials, consider putting your professional skills to use in helping to reduce the waiting-list time many of these individuals face in having their dental needs attended to. Weekly or biweekly shifts are available at a social service organization’s Stafford location.

Protect wildlife

A wildlife shelter in southwest Houston is recruiting volunteers for a variety of assignments. Depending on your preferences, you can help with shelter maintenance, answer an information hotline, assist with miscellaneous office functions, or work with trained staff to help care for animals housed at the shelter. Volunteers should be at least 16 years of age and willing to commit to twelve hours of service per month. The shelter is open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. seven days a week. The months of March –August, the shelter is also open Monday-Thursday, 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Take the wheel

Living independently is a little easier for elderly persons in Fort Bend County thanks to an agency that uses volunteers to take them to medical appointments and grocery stores.  If you have a good driving record, consider using your car or van to help one or more of these seniors run essential errands.  The most pressing need is for volunteers willing to help out on occasional weekdays.
