Speech students from Lamar Consolidated and Foster High Schools brought home a number of top 10 finishes at the recent Texas Forensic League State Tournament in El Paso.

Lamar’s Susan Czaikowski earned 5th place in Domestic Extemporaneous. Foster’s Gabrielle Webster and Mary Alyson Atkins were 8th in Public Forum Debate.
Stephen Vincent, also from Foster, advanced to the top quarterfinal round in Lincoln-Douglas Debate, putting him in the top eight out of 193 debaters. He was the only junior to advance to quarterfinals. Vincent also advanced to the quarterfinal round in Original Oratory.
Lamar’s Czaikowski and Nicole Vital both received Speaker’s Awards in Public Forum with a 10th-place finish.

- Porscha Shaw and Lauren Abbott, semifinalists in Duo Interpretation;
- Greg Heugel and Harry Johnson, quarterfinalists in Extemporaneous;
- Porscha Shaw, quarterfinalist in Dramatic Interpretation;
- Cooper Schultz, quarterfinalist in Prose Interpretation; and

Foster High’s Webster also advanced to the quarterfinal round in Original Oratory and made the semifinals in Domestic Extemporaneous.
Lamar Consolidated High sent a total of 19 students to the competition, while Foster took four to the meet. The students qualified for the state meet after accumulating points in preliminary tournaments.
