Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Department deputies were called to the Old Orchard Estates Subdivision yesterday after a mother found her 3-year-old daughter in the backyard pool.
According to reports, Kayla Cocom was found in the pool at their home at 13022 Barn Course Dr. around 11:15 a.m. Her mother immediately got her out of the water and began CPR. Upon arrival, deputies began assisting with CPR until EMS arrived. Kayla Cocom was transported to Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Child Protective Services was notified and Galveston County Medical Examiners Office will conduct an autopsy investigation, both of which are standard procedures in death investigations of a child.
