Fort Bend Independent School District Superintendent Timothy Jenney sent out an e-mail earlier this morning informing FBISD employees that the district’s reduction in force is complete.
The reduction in force was meant to reduce the projected $20 million budget deficit the district is facing for the 2010-2011 school year.
The district has operated on a deficit budget for the past three years, and estimates show that at the current pace the district’s $98 million General Fund could be wiped out by 2013.
Out of a total of 9,500 full-time positions in the district, 463 positions were eliminated. Of the 463 positions, 267 were professional positions and 196 were paraprofessional/auxiliary positions.
The district has re-hired 216 employees to fill positions made available through retirement and resignations. Out of that total, 154 were professional employees, and 62 were paraprofessionals.
The district expects to have their first balanced budget in three years, mainly through savings realized through the reduction in force.
The district reduced the deficit by $19,802,069 though the RIF, $325,000 through outsourcing lawn care, $600,000 through eliminating after-school activity transportation, $1,600,000 through route changes that included increasing the distance to bus stops, $190,000 by discontinuing UIL student insurance and $300,000 by compressing the summer work week to four days.

I hope they are done with these?
I hope KISD picked up some of them!
They forgot to “RIF” those responsible for the over spending.
I wish the 262 former employees, teachers and their families the best!
