Volunteer Fort Bend is looking for people who are interested in helping local civic and nonprofit organizations.
Here are some current needs:
Feed the hungry
Help box and distribute food for 400-500 people with a faith-based organization in Stafford that serves families in need. Groups and individuals of all ages are invited to help sort and box food items Tuesday or Thursday mornings from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Strong volunteers, who can lift boxes full of food, can really assist by placing those boxes in the cars of program participants on Tuesday or Thursday evenings from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Private pilots needed
Log some flying time while helping persons with serious medical problems. The regional chapter of a national pilots’ network is recruiting volunteer pilots to use their own planes to fly ambulatory patients in outlying areas to and from medical facilities throughout greater Houston. Flights are arranged to fit the pilots’ schedules and geographical preferences. Expenses incurred in the assignment are tax deductible.
Volunteer “side walkers”
Fun and fresh air are in store for volunteers participating in a therapeutic horseback-riding program for children and adults with disabilities. Based at stables in Fort Bend, the program uses volunteers to accompany these folks while they enjoy the unique thrill of a quiet horseback stroll in a protected environment. Register today for training in May. This upbeat assignment will be available on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and Saturday mornings. Volunteers as young as 14 are invited to participate.
