Book-lovers are invited to take a Book Break at noon May 20 in room 2D at George Memorial Library, 1001 Golfview in Richmond. Participants should bring a sack lunch to take part in a literary discussion of “Waltzing at the Piggly Wiggly,” a debut novel written by Robert Dalby.
This light-hearted novel takes the reader on a romp through the small, southern town of Second Creek, Mississippi, where Laurie Lepanto and her gang of socializing widows, called “the Nittwitts,” reign supreme. When the opening of a MegaMart in the area threatens the future of the local Piggly Wiggly grocery store, Laurie and her Nittwitts spring into action. They arrange a promotional event, called “Waltzing at the Piggly Wiggly,” which invites shoppers to dance down the aisles of the store with a dashing ballroom dancer, Powell Hampton, while bag boys collect their groceries for them. Will it be enough to attract new business to the store? Or will Laurie get more than she bargained for at the Piggly Wiggly?
This book club is free and open to the public. Call the library at 281-341-2677 for more information.
