Volunteer Fort Bend Looking For Volunteers To Assist Children In Need

Volunteer Fort Bend is looking for people who are interested in helping local civic and nonprofit organizations.

Here are some current needs:

Assist children in need

You’ll help children in the Lamar ISD get off to a good start in the fall semester thanks to a clothing and school supply drive scheduled for this summer. Volunteers will be essential to the drive; sorting and organizing donated materials and assisting with distribution.  Adults, teens, families, and groups are invited to help out Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, July 16 – August 5 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Casework aides needed

Shut-in senior citizens will benefit from your involvement with a new initiative launched by a local United Way agency.  Training will equip you to interview these seniors, assess their individual needs, and make recommendations for follow-up to professional social work staff.  The training will include in-class education as well as home visits with Case Managers.  This opportunity is available during daytime hours on weekdays.

Create lifelong memories

Become a mentor to a boy or girl from a single-parent home. Getting together twice a month at mutually convenient times with a youngster between the ages of 6 and 15, the two of you can enjoy recreational activities or simply discuss his or her problems and aspirations.  The sponsoring agency will provide you with training and ongoing support.  This assignment requires a valid driver’s license and background check. The minimum age for volunteers is 18.

Additional opportunities:

-         Art and dance instructors can help disadvantaged children in an after-school program in Missouri City realize their creative dreams and nurture their potential.
