To celebrate completion of the 2009-2010 Reading Recovery training class, 10 Fort Bend Independent School District teachers, representing nine elementary schools, recently took part in a graduation ceremony, hosted by the Reading Recovery/Descubriendo la Lectura Teacher Leader Team.

The graduates include Cyndy Ashlock (Lakeview Elementary School), Kanika Bass (Glover Elementary School), Elizabeth Bell (Palmer Elementary School), Cheryl Chapin (Oyster Creek Elementary School), Kymberly Harris (Ridgemont Elementary School), Janet Jelinek (Austin Parkway Elementary School), Supriya Jha (Lexington Creek Elementary School), Deirdri Joiner (Ridgegate Elementary School), Lucila Monte-Torres (Mission West Elementary School), and Nyja Laurent Staes (Ridgemont Elementary School).
With completion of their training class, the graduates will help provide intensive tutorials to struggling first-grade readers to accelerate their literacy learning so that the students can read at the same level as their peers and work independently in their regular classrooms.
Since its existence in FBISD, the Reading Recovery / Descubriendo la Lectura program has served more than 8,612 first-grade students who have had difficulty in learning to read and write.
