Volunteer Fort Bend is looking for Katy-area residents who are interested in helping local civic and nonprofit organizations.
ACCEPT DONATIONS and sort merchandise for a resale shop in Katy that benefits a nonprofit agency serving low-income persons. Your organizational skills will help bring order to what can otherwise be a chaotic collection of clothing and household items. You’ll be able to select a weekly shift between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays.
A FEW GOOD MEN are wanted as mentors at a Katy residential facility for children who have suffered from abuse or neglect. If you have a good rapport with boys between the ages of 11 and 17, consider coming by once a week (on weekdays between 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.) to interact with one of these kids in shared recreation and friendly conversation. Volunteers should be at least 21 years of age.
A LITTLE AFTERNOON MUSIC stimulates and delights senior citizens at an Alzheimer’s special care center in Katy. If you’re skilled at the piano, guitar, or organ, your weekly visits are sure to brighten spirits when you play the old songs these folks love so well and maybe lead them in informal sing-alongs. Currently, the ideal times for this upbeat assignment would be 3 p.m., 4 p.m., or 6 p.m. on any day of the week.
SORT AND ORGANIZE baby gift donations for a Katy-based agency that assists women experiencing unplanned pregnancies. By assembling layettes and gift baskets for clients, you will help to provide a warm welcome to life’s newest arrivals. Volunteer time commitments typically involve two to three hours a week and can be scheduled for morning, afternoon, or evening hours.
