The Missouri City Juneteenth Celebration Foundation’s 8th Annual observance is approaching, and the foundation has scheduled a week of activities.
“We are so proud and thankful for the support from Missouri City citizens, who have contributed to our accomplishments over the past eight years,” said Don Smith, founder and chairman of the foundation. “I encourage everyone to come and enjoy one of the largest celebrations of its kind in the United States.”
Festivities include:
*Annual Golf Tournament on June 14 at Quail Valley Golf Course at 8 a.m. with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
*Annual Dramatization and Picnic on June 17 at Freedom Tree Park, Misty Hollow Drive, starting at 9 a.m. and continuing every 30 minutes until 2 p.m. Performers will reenact historical events and area students will be treated to a picnic lunch of hot dogs, chips and drinks at nearby Community Park.
*Annual Community Service Awards Gala on June 17 at the Sugar Land Marriott Town Square from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sen. Royce West, of Dallas, will be the guest speaker.
*Community Health Awareness Exhibit on June 19 at Covenant Glen United Methodist Church, 401 Present St., from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
*Annual “Mile of Smiles” Parade on June 19 along Texas Parkway, starts at 5 p.m.
*Annual Battle of the Bands on June 19 following the parade.
*Festival in Hunters Glen Park on June 19 concludes the week; from dusk to 11 p.m.
