Gus George Law Enforcement Academy Graduation Set For June 25

On Friday, June 25, the Gus George Law Enforcement Academy will host its 25th Law Enforcement Academy Graduation Ceremony.  Commencement ceremonies will begin at 7 p.m. in the Auditorium of Foster High School, 4400 F.M. 723 in Richmond.

Friday will mark the culmination of 21-weeks of intense classroom and physical training for these 37 cadets.  Beginning Feb. 1 the cadets spent much of their time completing classroom training on criminal law, arrest procedures, community relations, and physical training.  They have also received extensive training concerning defensive tactics, firearms, driving, physical fitness, first aid and crime scene procedures.     

Near the completion of the Basic Peace Officer Course, the cadets demonstrate their proficiency with application of law, decision making and problem solving by participating in reality based training scenarios.  These scenarios test the individuals’ ability to handle situations ranging from traffic stops, domestic disturbances, building searches; as well as, shoot or don’t shoot situations. 

Upon successful completion of the state licensing examination, the cadets will receive their duty assignments with their respective law enforcement agency.
