A man struck by a train near Richmond June 15 has been identified as 46-year-old Richmond resident Robert Lee Hermis. Hermis was hit around 2:26 a.m. in the 5500 block of F.M. 762.
Authorities are still unsure if Hermis was killed due to the impact from the train – the exact cause of death is pending the toxicology report from Galveston County Medical Examiners Office.
Preliminary reports said the conductor of a northbound train, leaving from a coal plant in Smithers Lake, saw Hermis lying on the railroad tracks and sounded the horn continuously to alert him. The victim did not respond and the train ran over him before it could be stopped.
Hermis did not show any signs of movement prior to being struck by the train.
