4th Of July In Meadows Place To Have Military Flyover

Texas State Representative Charlie Howard will be joined by U.S. Congressman Pete Olson to lead the annual 4th of July parade in the City of Meadows Place. The two elected officials will help kick-off the celebration at 1 p.m. July 4.

City officials will follow the lead of the special dignitaries in the line-up of what Mayor Charles Jessup calls “the best hometown parade in Texas,” which is held annually in the city.  Other entries will be part of the parade that will set the stage for a day in celebration of Independence Day along with millions across the U.S.

“We’re also going to have a spectacular air flyover,” said Jessup, which will be part of a military static display.

Organizing the event is the city’s Parks and Recreation Department, and it will be awarding trophies for the best youth and best commercial parade entries.

“Go round up your neighbors now and join the parade,” said Jessup. Simplicity, originality, creativity and community spirit are the criteria the judges will use to determine the standouts. All non-motorized participants will be judged at the parade entry point on Dorrance and U.S. 59 at 12:30 p.m. before the parade begins.

The judge’s review stand will be at the Community Center, 12001 Brighton Lane, to view participants as the parade travels by it.  The procession will head to Mulholland and go left, then take a left on Brighton to Mark McGrath Park.  At the park, first and second place trophies will be presented to parade winners.

In the meantime, parade entrants are asked to contact the Parks and Recreation Department at 281-983-2935 for an entry form or download one from the city website, www.cityofmeadowsplace.org and return it as early as possible. Non-motorized entries do not need to register.  They just need to show up with patriotic décor on bikes, skateboards, wagons and whatever else they want to use to decorate their entry to join the parade, said parks and recreation organizers.
