From hitting the links to touching a historic tree, hundreds braved the heat to take part in the Missouri City Juneteenth Celebration Foundation’s 8th annual week-long celebration.

The commemoration teed off on June 14 with a golf tournament at the Quail Valley Golf Course as part of the organization’s fund-raising efforts toward college scholarships for high school students.

The youth watched a historical performance at Freedom Tree Park and afterward, each one had a chance to touch the centuries-old Oak. Then they had a picnic at Community Park with hotdogs and chips.
A new Community Health Awareness Exhibit at Covenant Glen United Methodist Church on June 19 included free screenings for participants. Dentists, chiropractors, fitness centers and hospitals were all represented at the first-time event. Hundreds came out to receive free screenings and advice to help them take proactive measures for their health.
Later that evening, people lined Texas Parkway for the annual “Mile of Smiles” Parade. Dozens of floats, bands and community groups made their way down the roadway, as crowds waved and cheered. Following the parade, the crowd was treated to the annual Festival in Hunters Glen Park.
